The Herbert Bilhartz March

by Jim Taylor

Herbert Bilhartz

This was written in honor of my Army band director, Herbert Bilhartz. It is a rollicking six-eight march with lots of surprises. If you listen, you will hear parts of the Army song after the trio, played by the trumpets and trombones. After the break strain, the trombones and trumpets stand and play the opening strains of TO THE COLOR and ASSEMBLY, which I discovered would superimpose over my melody after the fact. It ends with the final strain of AMERICA over the melody. This is a grade 5 march and would be a challenge for many HS bands.
